Kristofer Chenard, MD is a board certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with expertise in sports-related injuries, arthritis, and broken bones. Dr. Chenard’s focus is to help patients safely return to a full and active lifestyle. He takes pride in providing exceptional care of his patients with a personalized approach that is tailored to the unique goals of each patient. His passion for orthopedics emerged after undergoing several orthopedic surgeries of his own as a result of athletic injuries which inspired him to help others achieve their own successful recoveries.
Dr. Chenard is a graduate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, which was ranked in the top 10 medical schools in the country at the time of his graduation. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at New York University Langone Orthopedic Hospital, which is consistently ranked in the top 5 orthopedic training programs in the United States by US News and World Report.
He went on to complete subspecialty fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopic/minimally invasive surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital and the Nicholas Institute for Sports Medicine, the nation’s first sports medicine fellowship. Dr. Chenard served as an assistant team physician for the New York Jets and the New York Islanders during his fellowship training.
Dr. Chenard has advanced training in minimally invasive and arthroscopic techniques for shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle surgery.
Dr. Chenard also routinely treats arthritis of the shoulder, hip and knee. He performs high volume of shoulder, hip, and knee replacement surgery. Dr. Chenard specializes in anterior approach total hip arthroplasty and uses a specialized table designed for minimally invasive hip replacement surgery, which allows patients to mobilize quicker and with less pain than traditional approaches. He also specializes in stemless and short stem shoulder replacement procedures which are less invasive than traditional shoulder arthroplasty procedures. Dr. Chenard also performs total and partial knee replacement surgery.
Dr. Chenard has extensive experience in orthopedic trauma and fracture care of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle. Dr. Chenard trained at the two busiest level I Trauma Centers in New York City. Throughout his time practicing in South Florida, Dr. Chenard has provided orthopedic trauma and fracture care at Broward Health Medical Center, a level I trauma center, and North Broward Medical Center, a level II trauma center. Dr. Chenard has subspecialty expertise in treating complex knee multiple ligament injuries associated with knee dislocations and is passionate about restoring function to patients with these challenging injuries.
Dr. Chenard’s passion is to help his patients recover the quality of life they desire and return to the activities they enjoy. All of Dr. Chenard’s patients are treated with a compassionate bedside manner and heartfelt enthusiasm for helping them through the recovery process.
In his spare time, he enjoys basketball, volleyball, tennis, pickleball, stand-up paddle-boarding, and snowboarding.
